Ancient civilizations like Greek Romans use marble like main stone to built temples, monuments, theaters, palaces.

Marble is an expensive material to buy, to ship and store, can be damaged in transportation.

thru out the history decorators always search of how to imitate marble in order to decorate much cheaper areas like houses, museums, columns.

Most well known is the French style but most laborious the Italian style and of course every artist can add his own imagination of producing final result, we can use oil based glazes but takes time to dry or acrylic but demands accuracy since acrylics dry much faster.
